Academics - Excellence Beyond the Uniform

ree

More Than a Uniform

At first glance, JROTC might seem like it's all about drill, discipline, and leadership - but academics are just as important. In fact, academics success is one of the core pillars of the program. Cadets are expected to do their best in the classroom as well as in uniform.

How We Support Academics

In the Mighty Ghost Battalion, we promote academic growth by:

  • Tutoring & Peer Help: Upperclassmen often support younger cadets with classwork or homework

  •  Academic Awards: Cadets who maintain high GPAs are recognized at award ceremonies and events

  •  Study Hall Time: Time is made available before or after practice for studying

  •  College Readiness: We take field trips to universities, support SAT prep, and discuss scholarship opportunities

Why It Matters in JROTC

A strong academic record helps cadets:

  • Stay eligible for promotions and leadership roles

  • Qualify for national JROTC awards (like Academic Achievement Ribbons)

  • Apply for scholarships and leadership academies

  • Get accepted into competitive colleges, service academies, or career training

Expectations for All Cadets:

  • Maintain a minimum GPA required by the program

  • Avoid disciplinary referrals or classroom issues

  • Represent JROTC values in all academic settings

  • Take responsibility for asking for help when needed

Did You Know?

Cadets who stay in JROTC for 3–4 years often have higher GPAs and better attendance than their peers — and many go on to become honor roll students.
