 Military Ball

The Military Ball is one of the most formal and special events in the JROTC program. It’s a night where cadets come together to celebrate the year, honor military traditions, and enjoy a formal dinner and dance in full uniform or formal attire. It’s part ceremony, part celebration — and all unforgettable.

Before the dancing begins, the Military Ball opens with a ceremony that reflects the core values of JROTC:

  •  Posting of the Colors by the Color Guard

  • Candlelight Ceremony

  •  Guest Speaker or Honored Guest (often a military officer or respected leader)

  • Toasts to the flag, the battalion, and the nation

These moments remind cadets of their commitment, their growth, and the meaning behind the uniform.

Cadet Challenge

The Cadet Challenge is a fitness test used by JROTC to measure a cadet’s physical strength and endurance. Events include the one-mile run, curl-ups, push-ups, shuttle run, and the V-sit reach. It promotes personal fitness and healthy competition among cadets.

Community Service

Cadets volunteer in events that benefit the community — like food drives, clean-up projects, and school events. Community service is a key part of leadership and citizenship in JROTC, showing our commitment to giving back.

JROTC Recruitment

Joining JROTC is more than signing up for an elective — it’s the first step toward becoming a leader. Our recruitment process is how we reach out, inform, and welcome new cadets into the Mighty Ghost Battalion.

Not all JROTC programs are the same — and we’re proud of what makes the Mighty Ghost Battalion different:

  • Award-winning competition teams (Drill, Color Guard, Raider, and more)

  • Supportive leadership from experienced cadets and instructors

  • Service to the community that gives cadets a real sense of purpose

  • College visits and career exposure to build a brighter future

Battalion Formation

Formation is the structured gathering of cadets at the beginning and end of class. It includes roll call, uniform inspection, announcements, and drill practice. It teaches punctuality, discipline, and attention to detail — the core of any military program.

These trainings not only serve for organization and control but also to instill Leadership, Confidence and Responsibility in the cadets. Depending on the event, specific training may be carried out such as magazine training where cadets are evaluated individually on their uniform, ceremonial training which may include special movements, band participation, presentation of colors or presentation of awards, and informational training where orders, announcements, promotions or tasks to be accomplished are transmitted.

Physical Training

PT is our physical training that we do every Friday morning where cadets develop strength, endurance and teamwork through structured workouts. Physical therapy sessions include push-ups, running, exercises, team exercises and preparation for events such as Raider and Cadet Challenge.

Physical training not only ensures that cadets are in good shape, but also helps develop Leadership skills, commitment and constant effort. PT is a fundamental part of the battalion's ethos, as it prepares young people both physically and mentally to face personal and professional challenges in the future.

Internal Competition

Within our battalion, we hold friendly competitions like drill-offs, obstacle courses, fitness challenges, and academic quizzes. These events keep cadets motivated, improve skills, and create healthy rivalry between companies

Field Trips

Being a JROTC cadet means learning through real experiences. Throughout the year, cadets visit colleges and universities to explore education and career paths, and selected cadets travel to Fort Dix to experience military life firsthand. Whether in the classroom, the community, or on base, every activity helps us grow as leaders and prepare for the future.
